Aubade II is like a dream left behind on a bedside table. Scattered images make up this photocollage, as if they'd been fished out from some forgotten drawer. The central figure of a woman lies curled in a hotel bed, her face hidden, body folded inward. Around this are fragments of other lives: a solitary man in a rowboat, a house, half-memories of a vanished afternoon.
Produced during Elise Wouters HOS artist residency at Mona, this signed print blurs intimacy and ephemera to capture a fleeting narrative of longing, time and place.
Elise Wouters is a Belgian photographer and writer based in between London and Athens. Her work examines the poetics of place, solitude, memory and self-representation. Through her darkroom handprinting, she explores the physicality of photography, resulting in unique pieces that carry traces of their journey.
