The Nectaris candleholder rises like a drying reef at low tide. Its mineral contours and tentacular divots straddle the line between object and being.
Athenian ceramicist Angeliki Stamatakou’s handmade pieces seem not so much crafted as birthed. This blue-jade outgrowth folds and crinkles with sandy detailing that resembles oxidised stone. The textured glazing settles in irregular flashes like tidepools catching the reflected sky.
Whether on a mantlepiece or the armoire, in an entryway or at the bottom of a spiral staircase, Nectaris casts a glow that amplifies the evening light as if dancing along the bob of a coming wave.
Angeliki Stamatakou is a ceramics artist based in Athens, Greece. Her work includes unique sculptural decor objects, vases and centrepieces.
She uses stoneware clay employing coiling, wheel throwing and sculpting techniques for her ceramics.
She owns the entirety of the creation process, from the conceptual stage and design to the pottery-making, sculpting, painting, glaze-making and firing.
Her main source of inspiration is nature, which she finds is full of treasures of various patterns, textures and shapes.
