Belgian analogue photographer and writer Elise Wouters has created a pair of fine-printed self-portraits as a departing visual message sent from behind the walls of Mona and hinting at the indefinable experience of solitary retreat.
Made as part of an HOS artist residency, these enigmatic monochrome prints on German etching paper are carefully framed in black steel behind high-quality protective glass.
Elise Wouters is a Belgian photographer and writer based in between London and Athens. Her work examines the poetics of place, solitude, memory and self-representation. Through her darkroom handprinting, she explores the physicality of photography, resulting in unique pieces that carry traces of their journey.
