Platinum cerulean gloss peeks through the heavily textured face of “Tycho”—a ceramic meteorite, named for the famed Danish astronomer.
Designed as a wall ornament and on display as part of Angeliki Stamatakou’s takeover of Mona’s room 16, the dappled pits covering its surface invite the eye to search for hidden signs of life and its steely grey tones seep into the hotel room’s 70-year-old exposed paint like the sudden outgrowth of some interplanetary coral.
We imagine this work as an understated visual complement to soft-lighting and contemplative, cold-coloured spaces.
Angeliki Stamatakou is a ceramic sculptor based in Athens, Greece. In her series of works, large clay sculptures serve as pure evocative artworks as well as functional pieces such as vases and candleholders, blurring the lines between utility and art.
