NEVER SENT
Unique Work
68x58cm
Silver gelatin darkroom handprint on washi paper, mounted on wood board
A box tucked away at the back of a wardrobe, packed tight with letter leaves and postcards, handwritten notes coated with the scent of a faraway place. And dusted out from the centre of the pile, half-remembered…
The photographic work of London- and Athens-based photographer and writer Elise Wouters is like a trip into the wardrobe. “Never Sent”, a piece photographed and created as part of the HOS artist residency at Mona, is a silver handprint on washing paper. Its delicate composition and fraying monochromatic image invite the viewer into a fog of memory.
Elise Wouters is a Belgian photographer and writer based in between London and Athens. Her work examines the poetics of place, solitude, memory and self-representation. Through her darkroom handprinting, she explores the physicality of photography, resulting in unique pieces that carry traces of their journey.
Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book.
