NOSTOS II
Unique Work
50,5 x 40,5cm
Silver gelatin darkroom handprint on washi paper, mounted on wood board
Nostos II is the second installment in Elise Wouters’ Nostos series.
This photographic artwork was created as part of the HOS artist residency at Mona from a washi paper handprint mounted on a stark white wooden board. The fray-edged picture – a self-portrait of the artist herself – elaborates Wouters’ fascination with nostalgia and solitude as an entryway to self-discovery.
Elise Wouters is a Belgian photographer and writer based in between London and Athens. Her work examines the poetics of place, solitude, memory and self-representation. Through her darkroom handprinting, she explores the physicality of photography, resulting in unique pieces that carry traces of their journey.
Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book.
