NOSTOS III
Unique Work
45,5 x 60,5cm
Silver gelatin darkroom handprint on washi paper, mounted on wood board
Nostos III marks third installment in Elise Wouters’ Nostos series.
Created as part of the HOS artist residency at Mona from a washi paper handprint mounted on a stark white wooden board, this print repeats the series’ central image with variations on its central lived-in wear and tear. These repetitions signify Wouters’ attempt to reimagine the hotel space as an echo across time, inviting us to reflect on and return to ourselves.
Elise Wouters is a Belgian photographer and writer based in between London and Athens. Her work examines the poetics of place, solitude, memory and self-representation. Through her darkroom handprinting, she explores the physicality of photography, resulting in unique pieces that carry traces of their journey.
Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book.
