NOSTOS IV
Unique Work
45,5 x 60,5cm
Silver gelatin darkroom handprint on washi paper, mounted on wood board
Nostos IV is the fourth installment in Elise Wouters’ Nostos series.
Created during the HOS artist residency at Mona and drawing on the ancient Homeric epic root meaning ‘to return home by sea’, this washi paper print on a white wooden board makes return into a tactile, solitary and sensual act. This self-portrait, repeated across the series, is a moment suspended in time turned into a living artefact.
Elise Wouters is a Belgian photographer and writer based in between London and Athens. Her work examines the poetics of place, solitude, memory and self-representation. Through her darkroom handprinting, she explores the physicality of photography, resulting in unique pieces that carry traces of their journey.
Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book.
