LOVE LETTERS I - XI
Unique Work
Each piece is unique and ranges from A5 postcards and envelopes to larger
The pieces are hand-selected and vary in material from ink-stained artisanal paper and torn book pages, to dried flowers and darkroom prints.
In hidden alleys under the shadow of the ancient Acropolis, you’ll find shopfronts overflowing with a million lives' ephemera. Relics tower to the ceiling and pour out into the streets. It’s a treasure-hunter’s dream, a place where beloved objects wait to be found.
Belgian analogue photographer and writer Elise Wouters takes the feeling of this space home with her in “Love Letter”. Each of the unique art objects in this series is a signal from a forgotten moment. They are composed of images, text and objects printed, written or pressed on artisanal or vintage paper and presented in a beautiful gift box. The works, which were made as part of the HOS artist residency at Mona, are thoughtful evocations of devotion and place.
Elise Wouters is a Belgian photographer and writer based in between London and Athens. Her work examines the poetics of place, solitude, memory and self-representation. Through her darkroom handprinting, she explores the physicality of photography, resulting in unique pieces that carry traces of their journey.
Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book.
